To Whom Shall We Go But Thee (a hymn)

“Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can fully share its joy.”                      Proverbs 14:10

Whom shall I seek when the lone silence speaks
Thoughts that my heart must defy.
I shall call on Him.
I shall wait on Him
Who comes with truthful reply.

To whom shall we go but Thee?
To whom shall we go but Thee?

Who can console my grief laden soul
In the helplessness of loss?
I shall draw near Him,
The meek heart of Him.
My strength is His love–the cross.

To whom shall we go but Thee?
To whom shall we go but Thee?

And what shall I do when the path grows dim?
Where shall I look for light?
I shall search for Him.
I shall walk with Him
Before the descent of night.

Lord, to whom shall we go but Thee?
You have the words of life.
And we have believed
And have come to know
That You are the Christ,
The Son of the living God.
You are the Christ.

  1. We see the One and only most clearly when our sight is magnified by tears. Many have fallen from your eyes, and glorious is the vision. This is such a beautiful hymn, straight from a heart, your heart, of yearning. Thank you for blessing me.

    • Sheila,
Thanks for your comment on my song. I really do appreciate your encouragement, even though I’m not a very diligent blogger, witnessed by the fact that it took me over 3 months to see your comment. love you.

  2. Oh, Meredith,
How did I almost miss this?
This is beautiful. This sweet song is precious..
Yes, where can I go when the crushing weight is so great, when the heaviness of the burden is so much that it can not be known, can’t be understood, can not be comprehended, is seemingly not even noticed, by another, not by family, by friend, by counsellor? Then, I am called by One who says, “Cast your burden on Me. I will sustain you. Your burden is not too much for Me. Let Me carry it.”

Where can I go when the attacks come again and again and again and are not known, are not discerned by any other? Once again I am called, though undeserved, by the Merciful One, by my Gracious God, who says, ‘I am a Rock, hide in me. I will be your Shield, your Stronghold, your place of safety. I am not only a place of refuge — I am your Refuge.”

    Psa. 55:22; Deut. 32:4; Psa. 62:2,5-7.

Thank you for sharing. This was a blessing.
    I love you.

    • Carolyn,

I am so sorry. I am a sporadic, rather negligent blogger. I just went on my blog to write and saw your beautiful comment on my song. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I loved your comment and your scripture references! I wish it had not taken me over 3 months to see it! Had I seen it sooner, it would have been an encouragement to write more. I don’t really get many comments on my blog posts–mostly just you, Sheila, and my sweet daughter-in-law, Kim. A good Christian friend, who doesn’t read them, told me they are too long. Probably true. But, anyway, thank you.
      Love to you my friend.
